HANDPAINTED!! Autumn Currants motif, DOUBLE scalloped!
VERY BEAUTIFUL!! Wonderfully handpainted, this T&V punchbowl was painted by the famous studio artist Maxwell Rean (sometimes misread as Reau) KLIPPHAHN. Klipphahn was one of Pickard's best and most prolific artists, and this bowl attests to his artistry. The biography of Maxwell Rean KLIPPHAHN can be found in Reed's classic "Collector's Encl. of Pickard China". This beauty is painted on a T&V (Tressemann & Vogt) Limoges blank (green mark #7b - patent date 1901, ref. Gaston's book). This lovely bowl has the much collected "autumn currant" motif, with a deeply scalloped gold embellished rim. The edging is further enhanced by beautiful thin and airy nouveau influenced swirls on the interior rim, and raised dot design on the exterior of the bowl. The foot ring (pedestal) is likewise deeply scalloped and embellished with gold and raised dot design. The exterior has of rust and yellow, and is wonderfully painted with the autumnal design as well. Examples of other items with the "autumn currant" motif can be seen in Reed's book (i.e. plates 385,386,387). Examples of this particular type of T&V punchbowl's is rarely seen and highly prized. The mold itself is special. Add to that the most beautiful and exquisite painting I have seen, and you have a museum quality item.
