A VERY RARE SET! Beautifully and artistically done, this WILLETS BELLEEK bowl was handpainted by an artist who initialed it S.T.G and dated it 1907. The decorating mark on the bottom is mark #2 which corresponds to the time period from the mid 1880' to ca. 1909. The Willets Manufacturing Company was located in New Jersey and was only in existence for about 25 years. However, in those few years they created such beautiful and unique works of porcelain art that they rival those made by Limoges and Pickard, and are much prized and highly collectible today. The biography of the Willets Belleek company can be found in Mary Frank Gaston's classic "American Belleek".

The deeply ruffled edged larger bowl has the much collected strawberry motif, with gold enhancing the scalloped rim. As you can see in the pictures below, the painting is extremely fine and has been done by a porcelain artist of the finest quality. There is shading to the leaves, and the background variegates between blush, green, and sky blue. The condition of the paint belies its century old state.

The 5 smaller Bavarian berry bowls of this set are as exquisitely painted as the master bowl. They have additional detailing on the scalloped rims, with green and gold detailing. They are painted on RXC monbijou Bavaria blanks, with the mark corresponding to The Rosenthal Company about 1891 to 1907 (although there is another similar mark that lists the date as 1901-1933). I will throwing in an additional bowl, but will not charge for it as it has a very slight hairline on the bottom...it does not show on the front, as you can see in the pictures...consider it a gift to the wise buyer of this lovely set.

Master bowl Size: 8 1/4 inches in diameter. About 1 15/16 inches tall.

Smaller Berry Bowl Size: 5 5/8 inches in diameter. About 1 and 1/4 inches tall.

Condition: Mint condition, no chips, cracks, crazing, chips or hairlines.

Item ID: 6118
