This very, very rare Minton cabinet plate is hand painted in cobalt blue - gold - deep green - and rust. It is 8 1/2" In diameter and numbered L3421. This number appears on the back of all plates in either green, blue, or rust. There is an impressed - "MINTONS" on the back of all plates, and there are other assorted impressed marks, but not the same on all plates. They are - J-3-2-A-P-F and some others I can not make out. These plates were made in the mid to late 1800's. There is gold trim on the outside of all plates but the center of the plates are all different. There are - bluebirds - egrets - butterflies - stems - bamboo and branches. The gold on the flowers is thick and raised. There is gold dot beading in the center of the flowers. The darker patches that show up on the inside of the plates is actually gold dust flecking which shows up as brilliant gold when you are looking at them in natural light. The detail of the bird and butterfly wings is excellent. There is much crazing on the cream base of the plates, but this does not show in the painted areas. I love the contrast and to me the crazing adds much depth and more beauty to the plates. They came from a very wealthy estate. The couple that purchased these plates owned a travel company and toured the entire world in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Take a good look at a rare Minton cabinet plate.
