Antique Chinese Octagonal Wood Box Hand Painted Scenes Dovetail Large Floral Wood

Here is a highly unusual and unique antique Chinese octagonal eight sided wood box, with dovetail construction, a hand painted front scene of a group of elders, a back scene of village mountain and water, and alternating side panels of floral bottle shapes . The exposed unpainted wood has floral designs in a burnt orange and black color with the top of the box having a "pumpkin" pattern. The interior of the box is lined with what looks like wallpaper in a tree and leaf design. To be clear, the estate sale we purchased this from referred to the box as a "wallpaper box". I would estimate the age to be mid to late 1800s----perhaps earlier. I cannot identify the type of wood used nor do I know if the burnt orange and black floral pattern was painted on or burned into the wood. The handles and front latch appear to be original and made of brass, but the two back hinges have been replaced since the original screw holes are in a different pattern. The condition is as follows: Surface wear, color fade, tarnish to metal, lid may be slightly warped since lid is difficult to latch, crack across length of top of lid,seen from exterior and interior, a few cracks on the bottom only visible when turned over, some chipping in corners. The box weighs 5 pounds 3.6 ounces and measures approx. 16 1/2" long, 11 3/4" wide, and 11 1/4" deep. Considering the age of this box and the rarity factor it is in surprisingly good condition. I sincerely doubt whether another one could be found on the internet even closely resembling this one! Buyer to pay exact postage and insurance.
