ALMOST a book piece. In the upper-right-hand-corner box on page 14, Leslie Pina & Donald-Brian Johnson feature a purse almost exactly like this one in "Whiting & Davis Purses: The Perfect Mesh."
Probably c. 1940s, this glamorous handbag measures 7 1/4" across the bottom x 4 3/4" at its highest point. Inside is an open pocket with a Whiting & Davis tag. In addition, inside, the metal frame reads "Whiting & Davis/Made in U.S.A., 2958." Wrist chain measures approx. 10" around.
The mesh is in extremely good vintage condition. Only signs of age after all these decades are some tarnishing to the large metal and rhinestone clasp (All pave'-set stones are in place and undimmed, however.), and some pulling away of the lining--which is unripped and unstained--at one point. Please see accompanying photos. Moderate and not-very-noticeable nicking to the frame as well.
