I believe this to be genuine mother-of-pearl--but if that's not the case, it's the closest approximation in Lucite that I have ever seen! Compact measures 2 1/2" square and has a clean, unfogged, unchipped mirror and a clean powder puff as well. It may never have been used. However, the powder in the well is now gone, maybe as a result of time. There is also some wear to the back of the compact, as is illustrated in the last photo. Still a keeper for that lovely front!
