18th century English oil painting on canvas of "Sea Dog Captain" posing in front of velvet draperies over an open window with his ship in the background. These paintings were popular in England and depicted notable people as animals. The painting is inset in a baroque carved giltwood and composition frame and would be splendid in a library over the fireplace. The painting is in good condition with minor restoration to the frame and top of the canvas (only seen from the back) size of frame 32" H x 27 1/2" W, size of image 24" H x 19 1/2" W.
