A fabulous pair of botanical prints of apples and pears vintage copies of the originals from George Brookshaw's Pomona folio aquatints with stipple engravings, hand-colored on a dark background.  Brookshaw's work, done in 1812, is considered one of the finest British botanical works ever produced.  Brookshaw's fruits emerge from a deep brown background and seemingly float on a softly mottled light ground, creating a presence unlike that of any other botanical illustration.  Pomona Britannica was designed to identify the best fruits that could be grown in England.  These beautiful prints are set into custom colored mats and wooden frames and are in excellent condition, size of frame 22 1/2" H x 18" W, size of visible art 16" H x 12" W.
