A set of six framed and matted hand colored engravings by artist, Pierter Cramer (1721-1776) depicting butterflies. The engravings are in very good condition with minor age discoloration, circa 1792, and are handsomely mounted and ready to hang.

Pieter Cramer was a wealthy Dutch merchant and entomologist. He assembled an extensive natural history collection with a strong interest in exotic moths and butterflies which he immortalized in his illustrated book, De Uitlandsche Kapellen. Considered a key work in the history of entomology, over 1658 butterfly species were described and illustrated on 396-400 plates, some species being recognized for the first time. These illustrations are from his original plates.
