Presenting a true treasure, this 19th c. second Empire Boulle Shaving Mirror will please even the most discerning of collectors. This piece looks like it was made for royalty and very well could have been. The mirror bears a family crest topped with a crown, the arched shaped mirror swivels and is supported on two columns featuring caryatids topped with urns. The mirror is heavily decorated with boulle work and fabulous bronze cut-out decoration with rope border. The mirror is mounted on a stand with single drawer unbelievably decorated in intricate boulle work, mother of pearl and greenwood, embellished with an ormolu gadroon border. The frieze is also heavily decorated featuring bronze Bacchus Head keyhole and back mount. The piece is supported on satyr head bronze feet. The single draw opens and locks with key. This piece features unbelievable detail throughout, obviously made in France, circa it is in very good condition for its age. There were two places where the brass appointments have lifted but this has been re-laid with the original brass. The piece shows some signs of age in that the bronze has darkened but this is a desirable patina, the boulle is in very good shape. Structurally, there are no breaks and all pieces are original. The shaving mirror and stand measure 18 1/2" height, 14" width, by 10" depth.
