A delightful English biscuit tin in the shape of a hexagonal Moorish table with embossed design depicting the custom of inlaying furniture with bone, ivory, ebony, and various woods. The tin was published by Huntley & Palmers from 1903 – 1906.
A brief description by the Reading Borough Museum is provided as follows:
This was the second tin to be issued in the shape of a table (see Cairo, 1902). The design depicts carved wood inlaid with ivory and reflects early attempts to produce tins that did not actually look like tin. The arrow on the side of the lid provides a pointer for where to open the tin. 35,000 of these tins were produced in 1903.
The tin is in excellent age appropriate condition.
Size: 6" Height, 7" Width.
