A lovely Antebellum oil painting of a young woman, "Laura Ann Ayer," painted July, 1845 by "Caroline Hill Wardell" (1822 - ?) The painter was active in Oxford County, ME and Lowell, MA in 1847, she exhibited locally in Maine and came from a family of painters, she was well-known as a miniaturist. This painting is set into its original gilt frame, was purchased at Sotheby's in the 1960's with the history written on the back as shown; in very good condition, size of frame, 29 3/4" width by 34 1/4" height, size of visible art 23 1/2" width by 28" height.
