Extremely rare Wedgwood Nautical "Moonlight Lustre" Comporte on Stand with matching bowl. Each piece is covered in a pink splash lustre with green and purple markings on the shell. The stand features a brown cover with green splashings; the accompanying bowl features a shaded pink border. Each piece has the impressed Wedgwood mark as shown. The pieces are in excellent condition with note to the following-- comporte: small edge chip to the foot, slight discoloration near the base of the inside of the bowl with an age line in the glaze to the bottom of the inside bowl, two small age lines in the bottom of the stand. Bowl: small edge chip on the back edge of bowl, two glaze lines to the back of the bowl, slight discoloration to the inside and back of the bowl with minor crazing. All of these discrepancies are minor because of the age of these pieces, circa 1800-10. Size of comporte, 9" height by 10" length, bowl 10" length by 6 1/2" width. Josiah Wedgwood was involved in the development of lustreware; in 1792 he created a gold lustre that met his high standards. He also made commercial use of silver, pink, and his "moonlight" lustre from 1805.
