This magnificent tankard was made during the apex of the American Brilliant Cut Glass period and is one of the largest and heaviest pieces we've ever had. It was probably made by Val St. Lambert for the American Victorian market, however, it could possibly be American. I'm sure you cut glass experts will recognize it's origin. Measuring 14 1/4" in height and weighing almost 11 lbs., this rare piece comes from a well-known estate in Nashville, TN, the Victorian mansion known as Westmeade. It is on the registry for Historical Homes and still stands as a testament to the opulence and artistry of the 19th century. The tankard is in almost flawless condition with a deeply notched handle and various cut patterns including a deeply cut star on the base. There are a few flea bites to the saw tooth edges to be expected in a piece of this vintage and only felt if you rub your finger around the edge; ca. 1876-1906.
