Impressionist oil painting on canvas by German artist, Stephen Sedlacek, (1868-1936). The painting depicts a charming flower market scene with the emphasis on a young girl holding her flowers for sale. Note that most of the other figures are facing inward while the child’s quizzical stare faces towards the viewer.

Stephen Sedlacek was a German genre painter whose subjects mostly consisted of realistic romantic Ballroom scenes. He was quite prolific and his paintings have sold at major auction houses. This painting is somewhat of a detour from his usual form, but nevertheless most charming and somewhat more in keeping with the modern interpretation of Impressionism.

The painting is in excellent condition and set into a molded wooden frame, typical of the Bauhaus movement.
