O/C Bucolic Landscape by Hudson Mindell Kitchell

Set into a massively carved frame this lovely 19th century bucolic landscape by Hudson Mindell Kitchell (1862-1944) depicts gently rolling hills, a tiny farmhouse, and a distant meadow filled with sheep. The oil on canvas is set into an elaborately carved frame and is protected by glass. It is signed in the lower left hand corner and inscribed on verso.

"Hudson Mindell Kitchell, (1862-1944), was an early 20th century American artist known primarily for his luminescent and tonalist landscapes. He was a contemporary, friend and associate of Ralph Blakelock, whose "Moonlight" painting once commanded the highest price ever paid for a living American artist at auction. Kitchell's use of color and heavy textures often lead to his landscapes being compared to Blakelock's in style and composition. Kitchell painted throughout the United States but is most commonly associated with New York. He exhibited at the Society of Independent Artists in the 1920s" (taken from Wikipedia).

The painting is in good condition with minor loss of paint along the top rim edge and to a small spot at the two o’clock position on the canvas. The painting is under glass, but not touching; the frame is in good condition with some loss of gesso to the sides and age related cracks to the front.
