An enchanting oil painting, on canvas, attributed to George Henry Harlow (British 1787-1819) of Hon. Louisa Fletcher. The painting, of an adorable little girl, was once the property of Captain Henry Fitz-Herbert Wright (1870-1947) who had a distinguished career as a British statesman and scholar. He was married to Muriel Harriet Fletcher, from whose family this painting descended. Captain Wright owned the historic Yeldersley Hall, built in 1800 for Edmund Evans, and has the royal distinction of being the great grandfather of the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson.
The portrait is set against a shaded blue background of indistinct objects, which puts the focus on the face and bust of this beautiful child with her exquisite features and her string of pink pearls.
It is a stunning piece and very similar to another well-documented Harlow portrait of another little girl, Susan Ogle, around the same date, approximately 1800. The painting and frame are in very good condition, with slight age crazing to the canvas, set into a oval panel lining a rectangular frame; size 27” H x 24” W, size of image 20” H x 17 ½” W.
