This lovely early 19th century Louis XV encoignure vitrine or corner cabinet was probably one of a pair as the custom had started in 18th century France to have matching cabinets in each corner of the room flanking a commode. In the Louis XV period, the encoignure was usually surmounted by a set of shelves or étagère. It is quite rare to still find an encoignure with its matching étagère, as most were eventually separated. This fine example is exceptional in the quality of its construction with its exotic book matched marquetry veneers and bronze appliqué. The hand blown glass doors of the étagère are original to the piece as are all of the bronze mounts, which have been carefully polished, yet left with its patina. It is in superb condition with minor restoration to some veneer losses commensurate with age. This is a piece for the connoisseur of fine 18th century French antiques and a piece to be cherished and proudly displayed: size 75” H x 30” W x 20” D.
