A lovely and rare Sceaux French Faience box with puce decoration and bronze closure in trefoil shape. The box is in excellent condition, fully marked as shown. Eighteenth century pieces from this factory have become exceedingly scarce and are not often found in good condition; size 1 ¼” H x 2 ½” L.
The Sceaux factory was founded in 1748 by von de Bey and Jacques Chapelle. They produced soft paste porcelain in 1763 and subsequently sold the factory to various owners, the last being Marsault in 1810. Production seems to have stopped shortly thereafter.
