1865 Cranberry Bohemian Hand Painted Portrait Vase

Beautiful 19th century slender cranberry Moser type hand enameled glass vase with scrolled gilt decoration and center medallion with hand painted portrait of young boy; in excellent condition with minor age appropriate wear to the gilt decoration; size 12" H x 3 1/2" D; produced in Southern Bohemia circa 1865-70. Portrait vases, such as this fine example, were commissioned to commemorate the memory of a loved one and were produced for a relatively short time. They were usually not made after 1880, because of the advent of photography, making them quite rare and collectible.
