A 19th century oil painting on canvas by Charles Stuart a talented still life artist who worked towards the middle to late 19th century. He was fond of painting fruit, especially grapes, in fine detail. His landscapes show a masterful touch using light sources, often rays of sun shining on mountains or water. Stuart exhibited at the British Royal Academy and many of his pieces resemble the qualities desrable in the work of “the old masters.” This lovely landscape features a subtle blend of earthy colors with a beam of light shining through a cloudy sky. The idyllic surroundings of a meandering stream through heather covered hills reminds us of an enchanted Scottish countryside. The painting is signed in the lower left hand corner, titled in the back, and on a front plaque. It is dated 1892 and is in good condition with minor craquelure from an aged canvas towards the top; size of image 23 ¼” H x 17 ½” W; size of original frame 29” H x 22 ½” W.
