The bowl is being hoisted by three large putti which are mounted on a trefoil base. The beveled edge showing the slip decoration in very good detail. This modeling is typical of the designs of well-known artist Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse [or Carrier de Belleuse] (1824-1887) a French sculptor who worked at Minton during this time period.
The celadon ground color with white slip decoration was one of the first attempts being used at Minton involving the pate sure pate process, a time consuming and highly difficult decoration, which only a few truly great artists mastered.
This piece is magnificent from all angles making it perfect for a centerpiece; in excellent condition with minor restoration on the handle; size 11" height by 11 1/2" diameter.
