This finely made little shell-shaped case retains it's original, if somewhat fragile red silk interior. It is beautifully hand engraved on the ribs of the shells of both sides of the purse. While not in perfect condition, the rose silk interior is in decent condition for it's age with crisply pleated gussets. If you wish to preserve the lining, you cannot expect to use it. I believe that a collector will be pleased with the condition. The catch works perfectly and there no dents on the outside. The original purpose of this box has eluded us. We originally believed that it was a coin purse, but have realized that if it's purpose was indeed for coins, that the fabric pleats would have been damaged long ago.
It measures 2 3/4" (7 cm) wide at it's widest point and 2 "(5 cm) high.
It's marked, as one would expect, on both sides with a French makers mark in a diamond and the boars-head mark used for small 800/1000 fine silver.
