Book Description: New York: Parents Magazine, 1969. Author: Margaret Brown Klapthor. Hard Cover. ISBN: __________. The condition is good. It does have some wear and does not retain its original dust jacket. It is beautifully illustrated with more than 162 full-color pages including approximately 78 portraits of Presidents and their First Ladies. The binding is black cloth with gilt lettering on front & spine. It has 228 pages with a full index. It includes historical information and recipes from George Washington to Richard M. Nixon. The inside boards are beautiful. The Photography is fabulous and the writing is informative. Each chapter contains information about a United States president, his wife and their portraits so that you can put a face to the name. It has many anecdotes, guest lists, and information extracted from diaries and letters of presidential family members, friends and relatives. Recipes and menus for the favorite foods of the earlier presidents were taken from handwritten family cookbooks, letters, notes and or diaries. Original recipes are included, as well as updated versions of some. Some Presidents had simple tastes in food and others had very elaborate tastes. There are pictures of completed dishes & of official state china in addition to the biographies of each President & the First Lady. This is a really lovely book.
