This is a very rare plate of an even rarer subject. It is a Minton plate depicting a Turkish soldier holding an elaborately decorated sword. It was signed and painted by a very accomplished artist by the name of E. Bellanger. The detail on the plate is beautiful. The face is beautifully painted. The soldier’s costume is painted in deep blue and shades of reds. The sword hilt even appears to have jewels on it. It has a beautiful heavy gold gilt on the rim. The back has an impressed mark for Minton. On the back are the words “Escalier de Cristal, Paris”. It dates to circa 1850. It measures approximately 9 ¼” in diameter. The condition is very good, but there is some light crazing and what appears to be a very minor imperfection under the glaze on the rim on the back of the plate.
