About Us
Gems and jewelry have been a life long interest. My mementos from childhood are jewelry. I loved it and there is a practical aspect - it was small enough to tuck into corners of a suitcase whenever we moved. I have lived in many interesting places and brought back gems and jewelry from all of them.
I designed and made my own jewelry and costumes while growing up and working in the entertainment industry because the audience deserves to see things they have never seen before, not entertainers who are wearing the same things they are. I have also invested in antique jewelry. I don't invest in bonds or mutual funds because I don't know enough about them to buy wisely. I know about jewelry so I invest in what I know.
Vacationing with my own family I have bought jewels in many more exotic places and established relationships with traders who bring gems to me in Los Angeles periodically. I started taking classes in metal-smithing and jewelry-fabrication about 10 years ago, to learn how to make things properly so that they wouldn't fall apart.
My hobby was squeezed into my capricious schedule as a wife & mother. I have made hundreds of pieces and not had any time to sell them except when someone admires what I'm wearing so I make one for them. They are always surprised that I don't have a shop or a website. Now that my 'baby' is leaving for college soon, I do have time to service clients, make more jewelry for my Ruby Lane Shop and for a fine jewelry store in our Los Angeles area that wants to sell my pieces. My hobby has become my new career.
I use only real stones and real gold and silver, no glass, 'crystal', plastic, mystery metal, faux, 'shell-pearl'. I have made several series of pieces: Aquamarine, Pearls, Coral, Ametrines, Turquoise, Asian, Coins, and a group for Men.
Why Pele? The first two letters of my first name and my middle name are Pe and Le. Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes and fire. Every authentic Pele piece has a trademark: a small bead of black Hawaiian lava attached near the clasp. It is removable if the wearer wishes, but one might save it just in case it someday affects the investment value of the piece.
I have made about 100 coral pieces - there will not be any more. People have begun destroying the reefs to get coral to sell to jewelers and the quickest way to stop that is for jewelers to stop buying it.
My husband has 2 shops on Ruby Lane. He is helping me get started. We are big fans of Ruby Lane because of their integrity, quality, and service.
Welcome to my shop. I hope you enjoy my art. I enjoy making it for you.
