Victorian Sterling Marcasite and Carnelian Intaglio Warrior Pendant

Striking oval carnelian stone features a very nice intaglio carving of a Greek or Roman warrior in head gear and with a sword below. This was a popular theme in the late Victorian era, and carnelian stone was often used. The carving is prong set and the setting has marcasites at top and bottom, with a scalloped effect on the sides .A newer 18" long sterling silver chain has been added. Marked Sterling on the back of the pendant . Measures 1 1/4" long (3mm). There is age related patina which could be polished at buyer's discretion, and the carnelian has a slightly uneven bevel at the lower right side which seems to be original to the carving.
