Horatio Alger lived from 1832 - 1899 and penned a series of books that were very popular with boys. They were "rags-to-riches" and adventure stories extoling the virtue of hard work and ethical behavior. This is a set from the 20's, we believe, with wonderful pictorial covers. "Strive and Succeed" is an Alger classic and this one had two ad sheets for other book series tucked inside. They caused a slight browning of those pages, but we were very happy to find them! They're collectible items, too, and we're keeping one of them to frame. "Charlie Codman's Cruise" was written as the third volume of the Campaign Series, which included "Frank's Campaign" and "Paul Prescott's Charge". It is not as readily found as some others and isn't on the Alger Series For Boys list that is in the front of each book. Both books are in good condition, unmarked with just wear and normal deterioration of the cloth binding. No loose pages, tears, etc. They are both Hurst & Co. editions so the bindings match. Start with these and try to complete the set! Shipping USPS Media Mail - $3, Priority uses the calculator. Insurance is recommended on rare books, particularly with Media Mail.
