This is an extremely rare copy of the 1931 version of Blaise Cendrars 1918 avant-garde long poem set as a travelogue timetable. Cendrars, a Swiss whose real name was Frederic Louis Sauser, met Ernest Hemingway and John Dos Passos in Paris in 1924, and later became friends with Henry Miller. Cendrars was part of the creative movement that began in Paris before the First World War and is identified under various names such as futurism, cubism, and vorticism. Dos Passos translated the long poem from French and provided 12 illustrations for the book that were originally done in pencil and red & orange watercolors. This first edition consisted of 300 numbered copies printed on utopian laid paper and signed by Cendrars and Dos Passos. This copy is #190 and is in good condition. The original glassine wrap has a section around the spine missing, but is approximately 75% complete. The cover has smudges from handling where the glassine is missing and a small tear along the bottom of the spine but the inside of the book is very nice. It is 158 pages, softcover, and was set up in Linotype Bodoni and printed from the original types. The interior pages are uncut, meaning they have folds at the top, and the cover is actually a printed paper wrapper, which was then covered with the glassine.
It's a very rare collectible and we'll be pleased to provide more pictures, information about the author, etc. Priority Mail shipping with insurance is included in the price.
