Specializing in Early 19th C English Ceramics & Meiji Era Japanese Ceramics
The condition is very good. There is no wear to the pattern, and very little wear to the gilding. There is no crazing or discoloration. On the back, there is a shallow chip to the left handle. There is also a fine hairline crack which shows up best on the back, see a close-up in the last photo.
The mark is a black printed crown with a banner below which reads: REAL STONE CHINA. The pattern number 188 is hand painted in red. About the mark: this information accompanies an illustration of this mark on the Transferware Collectors website: "While the maker and pattern are both unknown, this... is probably mid-nineteenth century. The additional mark shown here was used by G. L. Ashworth, p. 190 and F. Morley & Co., p. 293 in Godden's " Ironstone" ,1999. Both factories had access to and used or adapted old Mason engraved designs."
