Creil Black Transferware Plate, Paris Fire Station, Antique 19th C French

This handsome plate is number 9 of a series of plates entitled "Le Nouveau Paris". The scene shows uniformed horsemen in front of a grand building. The caption is: "Caserne de la Cite, Pour La Cde de Paris et L'etat Major Des Pompiers."

The Creil factory was the first French pottery to use transfer printing on earthenware. The company was in business until 1895. The mark on the back says" LM & C" and "Creil et Montereau".

The plate is about 8" in diameter. It is in excellent condition. No chips, no cracks, no repairs.
