Specializing in Early 19th C English Ceramics & Meiji Era Japanese Ceramics
This cup shape is pictured in Michael Berthoud's "Compendium of British Cups" on page 163, plate 977. The shape is called "Louis Embossed" with a "Louis" handle. It is raised on six small feet. Berthoud dates it c.1835.
Advanced collectors call this set a "study piece". It is not perfect. The cup shows a faint hairline crack on the lower exterior of the body (which does not go through). I just black-lighted the cup, and that technique shows a very professional repair to the handle.
The saucer has no problems, and rings when struck.
This is an opportunity for you to buy a rare Coalport & Garrett cup and saucer at a great price, which displays well, but is less than perfect.
