Tokoname Wall Pocket Vase, Mushroom Men Escaping Hot Soup

This piece of Japanese Tokoname Pottery is quite unusual. Over the years, I've seen many vases and jardinieres with the standard dragon design. This piece was made to hang on the wall and is decorated with a bowl of soup with men (whose hats look like straw mushrooms) escaping from the bowl!

The vase is cone shaped, and is about 10" high with a top diameter of 3-1/4". It is in excellent condition, having only one tiny nick on the top outer lip (center). The final close- up photo shows the nick on the right hand side.

The reddish terra- cotta color is accented by mushroom people in buff and black. The vase is unmarked, but probably 20th C. (There may have been a paper sticker which has disappeared.)
