This handsome Meiji Era tea pot with side handle is unusual for Banko ware in that it has an all-over external green glaze in imitation of Chinese celadon. As you know, most Banko ware is unglazed.

Molded motifs of flowers and a lion-like dog (or shi-shi), are applied in relief over the honeycomb molding which extends around the pot. The teapot is marked Banko on the base.

The teapot measures about 5-1/2" wide and 3-1/4" high. The pottery is very thin.

The condition is excellent. There is only 1 tiny chip to the spout: see photo. No other chips or cracks. No repairs.
