Great old Ikebana (flower arranging) basket of sturdy, age darkened bamboo showing several different weaving techniques.

In Japan the line between art and craft has never been drawn the way it has in the West. A basket artist often took several months to complete one basket, and basket weavers have become "National Treasures".

This basket stands about 9-1/4" high, and the diameter of the "belly" is about 9". It is in excellent condition, with no breaks. I believe it dates from the Taisho period.

Fresh to the market from a Vashon Island estate.
