Specializing in Early 19th C English Ceramics & Meiji Era Japanese Ceramics
In Japan the line between art and craft has never been drawn the way it has in the West. A basket artist often took several months to complete one basket, and basket weavers have become "National Treasures".
This basket stands about 9-1/4" high, and the diameter of the "belly" is about 9". It is in excellent condition, with no breaks. I believe it dates from the Taisho period.
Fresh to the market from a Vashon Island estate.
Be sure to see the other Japanese basket we are offering. It is for fruit, not flowers, and it is signed.
We guarantee the authenticity of all items we sell and disclose any damage or restoration.
