This wonderful muffineer or caster (castor) measures 5-1/2" high.

For similar examples, see Jonathan Levi's excellent book published by Antique Collector's Club, "Treen for the Table". These shakers or "casters" were used for sugar, pepper, and other spices. This one still has a faint smell of pepper! I date it mid-nineteenth century.

Condition is good. There is a faint line (crack) across the base of the foot, which you may be able to see in photo #5. The foot is strong and stable, but must have been repaired at some point.
