Specializing in Early 19th C English Ceramics & Meiji Era Japanese Ceramics
The bird is beautifully modeled and hand painted. Be sure to note the anatomically correct feet folded up under the bird on the unglazed base. This technique is often seen in Japanese bronze art, but rarely in ceramics.
This piece is thinly potted earthenware (possibly Banko?) and measures about 6-7/8" (17.5 cm) long, and 4-7/8" (12.5 cm) long. The cover is missing. Other than that, the condition is excellent, with no cracks or repairs. There is a tiny chip on a tail feather, which can be seen in photo #7.
