Specializing in Early 19th C English Ceramics & Meiji Era Japanese Ceramics
The plate measures about 9" (22.5 cm) in diameter. Excellent condition. No chips, no cracks, no crazing, no repairs. There are some utensil marks.
According to Godden's Mark Book this mark "Real Ironstone China" in a banner with a crown above was "used by many manufacturers from about 1820". The pattern number 189 is painted in red. Based upon information on page 184 of Bergesen's British Ceramics Price Guide, I believe this plate was probably made by Ashworth (late Mason's) c.1880.
This plate has a distinctly greyish cast to the "white" body. Perhaps that detail will allow some of you experts to properly identify the maker. From the local estate of an advanced ceramics collector.
