From Russia, and called “Deesis with Christ, Mother of God, and St. John the Evangelist”, this Triptychon appears to be all original. In the 19th Century, Cast Bronze Icons were common in Greek Orthodox households, and smaller versions were used a ‘Travel Icons’, so one could find serenity in prayer while on short journeys or away from home. The three sections are connected with screws and hinges, which all work smoothly, and when open it easily stands on its own. When not in use, it easily folds up into a nice compact 2 ½” x 2”, making it simple to tuck away for storage. These were made in a variety of themes, and using a special process called “Cast in Lost Wax”. Nice Patina and Very Nice!
