Gottfried Keller lived from 1819 to 1890. He was a Swiss writer of German literature. He actually started out as an apprentice in 1834 to the landscape-painter Steiger and in 1837 to the water-colorist Rudolf Meyer. He studied for a time at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Apparently this didn't work out so well, so he returned to Zurich in 1842, and published his first poems in 1846. Back to Heidelberg and then Berlin and by 1855 he published his semi-autobiographical novel, Green Henry, drawing on his youth and career as a painter up to 1842. One might say his non-career - but the novel brought him acclaim. He was indeed a master story-teller and wrote many of the best known German language short stories. Thus we have this set.
The books are in very good condition. The pages are aged and I advise to turn pages with respect.
I will do my best with your questions. I don't speak German, but I will do my best to show you pictures or writing which may interest you. Thank you for that interest. Please visit our Orphaned Treasures shop on Ruby Lane and enjoy the offerings.
