"Echoes from the Sabine Farm" was written by Eugene and Roswell Martin Field and published by Charles Scribner's Sons. Copyrighted, 1895 this book was illustrated by "Mr. Edmund H. Garrett". Within the book I found a newspaper clip with a letter entitled "Eugene Field's London Letter". In it Mr. Field describes his book -- "I follow the Homeric text pretty closely, but I transfer the scenes from Troy to Cook county, and for Hector, Ulysses, Priam, Ajax and the rest I simply substitute the name of Pullman, MeVicker, Gage, Ferd, Peck and other people I know on earth. I want to popularize Homer among the hustlers."
This book is in excellent vintage condition with extremely clean pages (accept those in which the newspaper clipping was stored where it has yellowed from the newspaper's acid content). The cover is a peacock blue cloth with a gilded title. There is an inscription on the inside front cover from Sept 16, 1899.
I will be happy to consider offers and combine shipping on multiple orders.
