Eugene Field was known for his poetry. He first started publishing poetry in 1879, when his poem "Christmas Treasures" appeared in A Little Book of Western Verse. Over a dozen volumes of poetry followed and he became well known for his light-hearted poems for children, perhaps the most famous of which is "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod." Field also published a number of short stories, including "The Holy Cross" and "Daniel and the Devil."
This biography of Field was written by one of his daughters and includes photographs of Field as a baby as well as photographs of his library and childhood homes.
The book has an illustrated cover with gilt lettering. It is in very good vintage condition with some light soiling and bumped corners. There is no foxing, the pages are clean and the binding is tight. An extraordinary copy for its age.
