Ciner Compact and Lipstick with Hand Decorated Poodle

FABULOUS, vintage Ciner compact with a similar one featured on page 64 of “Mueller’s Overview of American Compacts & Vanity Cases” and the exact compact on page 53 of Roselyn Gerson's "Vintage & Vogue Ladies Compacts" Second Edition. The Company, which today continues to make fine costume jewelry, only made ladies compacts in the mid 1950’s. According to Mueller, Ciner gave their in-house artisans design freedom which resulted in a variety of stunning compacts such as this one. The company used only the best of materials and quoting Mueller regarding Ciner compacts, “Ciner cases join the ranks of American artistic eminence.”

This particular gold-tone case with matching lipstick features a poodle hand decorated with Austrian–cut crystals. The compact and lipstick case comes in its own black silk carrier which measures approximately 3 1/4” by 2 1/2”. The compact is 2” square by 3/8” deep; with the lipstick standing 2”.

The lipstick lid is easily removed and has no lipstick residue. And, when you snap open the compact, inside it has a hinged compartment for loose powder and a puff. The hinge securely snaps open and shut revealing a small powder puff but no powder.

The mirror has a small amount of foxing and both the front and back of the compact has a few light surface scratches. There is also one crystal missing on the poodle’s tail. However, for its age, this compact, lipstick and carrier would be considered in excellent condition and certainly a “star” in your compact collection!
