Awesome 1890 Silk Dress Top

Ok--I suspect that some of the dress is missing (the SKIRT) but this is just a wonderful piece of couture. I am estimating that from the style it is from the 1890's. It is made of pure silk that is striped --gray and light green on vanilla. The stripes are small. The workmanship on this piece is astonishing. They just don't make things like this anymore (maybe wedding dresses come close.) I can't imagine having to dress like this all the time as there is boning inside to maintain the shape. It is lined with a beige material and fastens with hooks and eyes at the bodice. The trim at the wrists is wonderful--contrasting stripes of material and rosettes with black velvet centers. The collar is black velvet with lace and a bow at the neckline. The extra piece of lace jabot is not included--just there to show you how it might have looked. This item could be used for a re-enactment costume, or just to add to a antique collection for display. I suppose you could cut it up to make French fashion doll outfits but I could not make myself do it. (Just don't tell me!!) Of course, you would need to find a gray or black skirt to complete the costume. Women must have been smaller then because this looks to be comparable to a size 2 women's. Another reason zaftig ole me can't use it....Really nice piece of antique clothing in immaculate condition.
