Rare Mumtaz-Mahal Ivory Portrait

Featuring an amazing Ivory portrait in honor of a woman who's flawless beauty and virtue conquered the heart of a Prince who became Emperor more than four centuries ago. As a devotion to her love, one of the most impressive and majestic architectures and wonders of the world was built, know today as the Taj-Mahal. Her name is Mumtaz Mahal; meaning "beloved ornament of the palace" which is the common nickname of "Arjumand Banu Begum" (her original name), born in April, 1593 in Agra, India. (info.partially obtained from Wikipedia). She was known as a woman of legendary beauty, virtue and wife of Prince Khurram who would later ascent the Peacock Throne as Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. This Ivory portrait is simply superb with exceptionally hand painted detailed features. Mumtaz Mahal looks like a goddess adorned by rubies, sapphires,pearls, gold and fine silk fabrics. This exceptional artistic masterpiece not only captures her beauty, but impressively creates flow to the curls of her hair. The fabric vivid colors and impressive fashion design is more than a conversation piece. It defines her high hierarchy status and wealth. There is no visible signature on this unique interpretation of artistic talent, but the quality of work speaks by itself. There is some mild wear on the lower left side of her scarf, which is barely visible to the naked eye(I have magnified the pictures for your view). This is a true antique and the condition is superb. This portrait is set on a French Style gilt frame, measuring 2 1/2 inches long by 2 inches wide(portrait).

This fabulous Ivory portrait was part of the Estate of Marjorie Siegel Navran, who resided at the prestigious Walnuts in Kansas City, Missouri and was the owner of a Wonderful Antiques & Art Collection; such as "Thomas Hart Benton". Her father was president of Harzfelds fashion specialty stores and her husband, William Navran, owned the Burd and Fletcher Printing Company.
