This charming still life evokes an autumn evening with the tangy scent of peeled oranges and the sweet promise of glossy chestnuts displayed against a warm background. You can almost smell the crackling fire.

The vase depicted in this piece is wrapped in bamboo, lending an oriental accent and a shot of cool color that acts beautifully as a foil for the warm hues that predominate in this painting.

Condition is good. Painted on canvas which has been laid on artist's board, there is one old, tiny overpainted flake in the background (third to last photograph), but really no problems that distract from the immense charm of this piece. Measures 14 1/2" x 11 1/4" overall, the board measures 11 3/4" x 8 1/2", and the sight size is 11 1/2" x 8 1/4". The frame is new. Signed and dated on the lower right corner, Mary De Hont 1935.

This is an intimate painting, perfect to accent a small dining area or quiet reading nook... somewhere you might sneak away to with a cup of mulled cider and that new best seller on a chilly evening. Lovely.
