Fine French Opaline Tumbler w/ Gilded Bees & Stars - Milk Glass

A lovely example of antique French Opaline glass, which we all know is some of the finest in the world... and just look at those bees and stars... very chic. The bee has been associated with France since Napoleon made it a symbol of his reign. He liked the bees' selfless and organized work, the way they unquestioningly followed their leader.

This beautiful glass glows amber with an inner fire when transmitting light, and shows an icy blue cast when the background is dark... changeable and moody, alive with fire and ice.

Condition is great. The lip of the tumbler is ground on top, with another small ground bevel on each side. My nail catches slightly in a couple of spots, but I cannot see anything wrong, even with my reading glasses. The bottom is ground and shows appropriate wear, including some expected scratches (last photo). The gold is in good shape with very minimal wear. Stands 3 1/2" tall, with a top diameter of 2 11/16".

This wonderful little tumbler would be great at a bedside or on a dressing table to corral some of those cosmetic pencils that just seem to multiply when we're not looking. Treat yourself to the best!
