A Felicitous Gathering of Curious Goods - Have a question? Need more information? Email me - mjbakst@yahoo.com
Opening ingeniously from the front to the ground floor, with the attic accessible through the back roof... its porch swings away, steps and all, and beckons you to enter. There is some early wiring and fixtures that look to have been added along the way, and are not to scale.
The dilapidated state of this little house makes it all the more delightful, the paint is crackled appealingly and reveals some red underneath, likely the original color of the roof. The floors and walls display patterned paper, typical of late Victorian and Edwardian times, and the chimney looks to be made of wooden spools.
Condition is as you see it, with flaking paint and oodles of charm. The electric cord has been cut... just as well since there was nearly no insulation left. It could be rewired if you choose, the fixtures might be removed, or it can simply be left as-is and enjoyed. This little house measures 22" wide across the roof, 11 1/2" deep not including the steps which stick out an additional 2 1/4", and is 18 1/2" tall to the top of the chimney 'spools'. The cottage style looks early 20th C, perhaps a bit earlier.
These old houses are always desirable, and are becoming quite difficult to find. They've nearly all been collected up. Wonderful for a holiday display or delightful any time of year, this sweet little cottage has super color and character, captivating with it's simple appeal. A fantastic piece. Everyone will want to know where you found it... tell them it was just down the rabbit hole.
