A beautifully balanced, classic pair of double sided links is a rich and understated expression of Art Deco design. The center displays alternating concentric rings of polished gold and ribbed guilloche, or engine turning, with a wide border of ribbed guilloche superimposed with a repeating 'Greek Key' design. Very classy, and equally appropriate for a lady or gent.

The technique of 'guilloche', or 'engine turning', displayed on these links, is all but a lost art today, requiring complicated, antique machines, sometimes called 'Rose Engines'. Far from being a mere mechanically engraved design, guilloche requires considerable skill and artistry on the part of the guillocheur to achieve it's precise geometry. Because of the dwindling number of both operational, antique machines, and skilled guillocheurs to operate them, guilloche today is a true luxury, found mostly on treasured antiques like these links.

Condition is grand with no flaws to report, gently worn. The connecting bars are lovely in themselves, with a rope design, and are marked 10K. Each of the four plaques measures 9/16" in diameter. Early 20th C, 1920's.

The warm color of the yellow gold is the perfect accent for cool weather tweeds and wools. Let them peek from under the cuff of a cashmere sweater or gleam on a dark cuff. Delicious.
