I believe it is crafted of steam bent oak, fastened down the side with nails, and secured by metal bands. These bands are held on with nails; they are also punctured here and there, forcing the metal into the wood and fastening them together.
Condition is very nice. It's a primitive piece, and shows appropriate wear. One missing nail where the curved oak is fastened to itself, but this is not a structural problem. Please look at the pictures. Stands 4 58" tall and measures 7 14" in diameter. I would guestimate a late 19th C or early 20th C date.
This evocative little piece will add a touch of old-fashioned country charm wherever you put it and should ably serve for another hundred years.
